Triple glazed windows are standard today
For building refurbishments and new buildings, the question arises again and again: Is double glazing or tri-glazed windows to be installed?
Of course, the costs are of the utmost importance. The triple glazing is about a quarter more expensive than conventional windows with double glazing. What is clear is that the additional disc also means more thermal insulation. The current regulation on energy-saving heat protection and energy-saving plant engineering in buildings (also Energy Conservation Ordinance or EnEV) requires a heat transfer coefficient, the so-called U-value, of at least 1.3 W / (m²K) for newly installed windows. This is already clearly undercut by an average triple glazing with a U-value of 1.0 W / (m²K). In this case, the client is on the safe side.
The effectiveness of a good glazing can be recognized by the fact that the windows can be fogged on the outside in the morning and in the evening. This shows that the heat of the room does not penetrate the outside. But in addition to thermal insulation, triple glazed windows also provide better sound insulation and better protection against burglaries due to their higher strength. Two aspects which are worth a consideration in a house renovation. For new buildings the triple glazing is expected to be mandatory from 2021 onwards. This was defined by the European Union in the EU Building Directive 2010/31 / EU.
