Cellar renovation helps to save heating costs

The cellars of older houses are generally not insulated. Here, a lot of energy is lost from the rooms above.

Many homeowners think that the basement does not play such a big role in the insulation, since it is not heated. But they are in error. Also an unheated cellar is heated by the ceiling of the heated living rooms. For a reasonable renovation of the lower floor, first check whether the exterior walls are dry. In the case of a subsequent insulation of the basement walls from outside, a corresponding seal can also be applied immediately. In case of retarded insulation, there are two things to consider: as low as possible and at least 10 cm thick (with a thermal conductivity of 0.4 W / (mK) or better).

Since in an existing building the floor slab can no longer be retarded afterwards, an insulation he basement ceiling is useful in most cases. In combination with the exterior wall insulation, the most effective heating costs can be saved in an old building renovation.
