Living with a touch of Silicon Valley
The former Hewlett-Packard branch in Rüsselsheim is currently building 130 apartments of high standards. The specialists in LiWa Bau GmbH were entrusted with the conversion of the functional office building into an appealing residential complex. The structural change in the Eisenstrasse should be completed by the end of the year.
For nearly four years, the former HP office building was in slumber, before the end of 2017 began work for its conversion into a residential building. By 2014, 1200 employees had worked here from the computer and printer manufacturer Hewlett-Packard from Palo Alto in Silicon Valley. Then it was quiet around the building with the H-shaped floor plan in Rüsselsheim. Now, the former office space is to be used to create apartments from 39 to 190 square meters of living space.
As a specialist for complete refurbishment, LiWa Bau GmbH was commissioned with the execution of the extensive renovation work. To do this, the entire electrical and water supply had to be reinstalled in the first step. The heating system was also renewed with a view to a changed use. By moving in new walls, housing units with up to four rooms were eventually created.
Conversion for upscale living comfort
For the construction company from the Westerwald, the realization of the maisonette apartments was much more challenging. The existing ceilings had to be breached and additional stairs installed. As a highly visible conclusion, the top floor of the former office building was converted into four penthouse apartments. The façade also underwent a significant change due to the extension of balconies. For many of the 130 apartments a free seat could be made possible by this steel construction.
Almost untouched by any renovation work remained the sprawling foyer. The representative room with the large windows is still the heart of the entire facility. In the future, a contact person for the real estate administration will be sitting at the former reception, which will continue to serve as a meeting place for residents and visitors to the facility.
